Greatest challenges and success:
We bought an orchard in 2003 and built a market in the middle of it in 2004 to bring the consumer directly to Barrett Orchards for fresh fruit.
We built a gambrel barn to make the orchard experience more authentic.
Mark and Cheryl are fourth generation fruit growers in the Upper Yakima Valley whose families homesteaded in Yakima and Selah in the early 1900s.
After growing production apples and pears for over 20 years, we started direct marketing at the Yakima Farmers Market for several years.
Now, many travel from the west side of the state for the family fun we also offer: annual festivals for cherries with u-pick along with pit-spitting and pie-eating contests, apples with cider tasting, a pumpkin patch, and a hay maze both with live music and hay rides. |
