CS Pilates

Submitted April 2011

Owner:
Cathy Schlieman

Address:
910 Summitview Ave., Suite 6A, Yakima, WA 98902

Years in business: 11

Line of business: Pilates instruction

Number of employees: 6

Greatest challenges and success:
Cathy and her husband, Jeff, have lived in the Yakima Valley since 1983. In 2002, Cathy began her own business, Pilates by Design.
She had a complete studio in her home until 2008. On Feb. 11, 2008, Cathy opened CS Pilates-Core Strength Fitness Studio.

CS Pilates offers a variety of pilates group classes with usually no more than six people per instructor, as well as private sessions. The instructor guides clients through each exercise, focusing on form and technique and making modifications for individual needs.

CS Pilates Core Strength Fitness Studio is fully equipped with pilates apparatus: 11 reformers, six towers, two wunda chairs, one trapeze table, one ladder barrel, mats, balls, orbits and other accessories.

One of the greatest challenges has been to educate the community about the benefits of pilates.
Although the core strength fitness method has been around for over 90 years, the Yakima Valley has had limited opportunity for people to experience pilates. The space requirements to hold the specialized equipment have presented another challenge.

Cathy listens to her clients’ needs and responds. From group classes to private one-on-one sessions, she has increased the number and type of offerings. Client and medical referrals have helped to increase the number of clients.

Another expansion is planned, and the work has begun! CS Pilates will be adding a cardio studio in May, which will include more cardio pilates classes, Zumba, Jazzercise, Nia and other fitness classes.
